Algodonales - Poniente

About This Spot
Excellent site for all kinds of pilots; summer months thermal activity is heavy, but evening flights are good. But then few are here anyway, as it's too hot with temperatures sometimes above 45°C between late June to early September.
Poniente works well in the afternoon and evenings when Lavante stops.
There are several companies offering instruction and guiding in the town… it is a lively and fun place in season (spring and autumn).

Access Notes
A-384 out of Algodonales direction West: turn right, soon after the Cespa garage, then right towards La Muela after a few kilometres there is a right hand turning, keep heading for after La Muela. After a few hundred metres you pass the LZ for 'Poniente'… check the windsock and look around; it is not the most pleasant place to land due to the trees, valley and power lines. After La Muela, there is a gateway on the right to the picnic area and there is a sign: to the Launch Sites (from here on road is unpaved, rough, winding and often narrow, but no problem for 2WD, but watch out for returning vans!). If coming from 'Olvera' you can drive more directly to launch by taking the right turn towards 'la Muela' (CA-9101): turn-off after Olvera, at 36.9436033,-5.3086977, then as. Hiking to launch(es) is also possible and often done from the Poiniente Landing site, la Muela and Algodonales.
