Tocco Da Casauria

About This Spot
The road to the take-off is not the best but it runs without any problem with any type of car. After leaving the car to the parking area you have to walk uphill about 100 meters.
The flying site of Tocco is normally used from March to October and enjoys excellent weather conditions.
You get to fly in the early afternoon from 13.30 / 14:30 thanks to the arrival of the sea breeze.
It's a flying site suitable for all pilots and offers excellent opportunities for cross country; you can reach Mount Morrone and the best pilots the Gran Sasso.
The take-off area is located at 650 mt s.l.m. (above sea level), with exposure E-NE (in the Park of the Maiella. It is a large grassy area with a slight slope, and is equipped with various windsocks, a wide wooden roof and a weather station telematics (Sint-Wind) that you can contact via the phone number: 3890550368. The take-off area is reached along an unpaved road and has ample parking for cars. Behind the take-off area rises the mountain chain of Morrone, in its highest point, of 2060 mt. The landing area, is also equipped with wind sock, is 400 meters above sea level and is clearly visible from the take-off area and easily reached by inexperienced pilots. Thanks to the proximity of the sea (about 30 km), Tocco da Casauria is in favor of a constant breeze and generous thermal conditions, from spring to autumn. You can choose to sail along the down ridge and stay ahead of takeoff or proceed to head to the Morrone for a cross-flight…follow the mountain chain to get to Pacentro (AQ) or even reach Piana delle Cinque Miglia, near Roccaraso (AQ). If you want, you can also go in the direction of the Gran Sasso Park, in which case you must first acquire a safe altitude, needed to cross the Gorges of Tremonti (or Gole di Popoli) and then proceed to Cannatina.
Takeoff altitude: 613m
